Insights

At 40 monitoring stations for river and rainfall levels, we trained and supported Gauge Readers & Observers, as well as government staff in how to use our prototype.

After extensive testing & learning, the final solution based on SMS was rolled out.

On a daily basis, measurements were sent by the Gauge Readers & Observers to an online Data Center where the data was available for instant analysis & download in excel or .csv.

The value of our solution became apparent when capturing data on important events, such as the extreme rainfall of Cyclone Ana in January 2022 and when comparing data collected to the trendlines of historical records we digitized.

Results

5,000+ high accuracy data collected on river & rainfall levels from November 2021 to April 2022

Exceptional observations captured during Cyclone Ana January 24-25, 2022

Data Center provided data access in near real-time with geospatial visualization & easy download

“With rainfall data available to the head office… people will be aware of how much rainfall we receive in the flood prone area of Karonga.”
