Malawi

Scaling to create value

Insights

24,000+ quality controlled rainfall and river level observations! In February 2023, our service was rolled out to 70+ monitoring stations of Malawi's Department of Water Resources and Department of Climate Change & Meteorological Services. Gauge Readers and Observers at monitoring stations from south to north Malawi gathered data supporting the Government's efforts in managing water and climate risks.

We ramped up capacity building to enable community engagement. Consistently, observations were submitted above 80% of time and against quality requirement (surpassing WMO standard).

The resilience of manual observations was evident after Cyclone Freddy March 2023, when many returned to sending measurement and easily reported if equipment needed repair.
